Matt Brooks of San Francisco has recently been awarded the prestigious American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is given annually to individuals who embody outstanding mountain guiding achievements.

To qualify, recipients must be a U.S. citizen (for at least 30 years), contribute greatly to the mountain guiding profession and exhibit personal qualities such as moral courage, integrity and loyalty. Based on the qualifications, it is easy to see why Matt Brooks was this year’s choice for the AMGA Award.

Matt Brooks of San Francisco was recognized for his extraordinary accomplishments in mountaineering. His efforts to create awareness about mountaineering and to promote safety are second to none. Although he has reached the pinnacle of success as far as awards go, Matt still continues to educate others about respecting the outdoors and remaining safe while on adventures.

His passion for safety was the inspiration for his company Brooks-Range. Early in his career, Brooks realized that the equipment available to explorers were substandard. He set out to create new products that would help keep adventurers safe as they sought higher summits and deeper seas.
